DMC Hardy Hibiscus are available for purchase in mid-summer beginning on the Fourth of July.
At the Drew Mathieson Center (DMC), we select Hibiscus varieties that are hardy to our area, meaning that they can be planted outdoors and will thrive year after year if given the proper growing conditions. Hibiscus are native to the Eastern United States. Large blooms attract birds, butterflies, and hummingbirds, and are deer resistant.
The DMC grows Hibiscus moscheutos varieties ‘Luna Red’, ‘Luna Pink Swirl’, and ‘Luna White’. Dramatic and impressive, the Luna series produces large, bushy, well-branched plants. Hibiscus moscheutos add a unique, tropical touch to any container garden or landscape.
Usually one of the last perennials to come out of dormancy in the spring and one of the first to go dormant in the fall, Hibiscus will bloom throughout the summer and into early fall. Although the individual flower bloom seldom lasts more than a day, the plant will continue to produce numerous buds for a continuously evolving presentation.
